Ifatunbi Adefunmi is the founder and director of Evolution…of the spirit, mind, & Body. Born on September 23, 1974 to King (Oba) Oseijeman Adefunmi I, founder of Oyotunji African Village in Sheldon South Carolina and Queen Mother Yeyefini Efunbolade, founder of the International Institute of African Studies (IIASK). Ifatunbi was raised with the traditional philosophies of the Yoruba people of South West Nigeria, Southern Dahomey, and Togoland West Africa. Through such profound parenting, Ifatunbi is trained extensively in orisa priesthood, and Yoruba culture and traditional rites.< xml="true" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" prefix="o" namespace="">
Ifatunbi began her formal education in Oyotunji Village. At age 14 she began teaching and choreographing African dance. She has studied and performed with the Balafon women’s ensemble, Izibu Muntu African Dance Company, Kankoran West African Dance Company, and Lajo Theatre of African Dance. She has conducted dance fitness classes in the Americas and the Caribbean at the Davidson College, Davidson NC Love of Learning Program and the Norman Manly School of Performing Arts in Jamaica, West Indies.
Ifatunbi has continued her life love and interest of movement, dance, sports, fitness, history, Spirituality, and African Culture at Howard University where she obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree in the field of Exercise Physiology from the Department of Leisure Studies and Human Performance, and a minor degree in African Studies from the Department of Social Studies. Ifatunbi went on to program Adaptive physical education and prescribed individual exercise programs for the Beaufort Naval Hospital. Ifatunbi has studied the vegetarian nutrition techniques and meditation systems of the Ancient Khemetian (Egyptian) society of Ausar Auset Cultural Centers in Washington D.C, New York, New York, and Atlanta, GA. She continued her career in leisure studies as a Elder Grant Coordinator, Recreation Coordinator, and Recreation Supervisor with the City of Hollywood Department of Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Arts.
